Sandstone Logistics ran its trucks on phone calls and paper logs. Dispatchers rang drivers to find out where they were, diesel left the depot tank with no record of who took it, and the tank, the pump and the trucks never agreed at month-end. Nobody could say where the missing litres went.

Fleet Telematics put the fleet on one live map using the trackers already fitted to the trucks. At the depot, the pump released fuel only to an allowed driver and truck, the tank gauge reported its level automatically, and a daily check compared what should be in the tank with what the gauge said. Each truck's tracker added a second watch, flagging fuel that rose or fell while parked.
